Arts District, Los Angeles · shop
An Arts District bakery and bread counter hidden inside a windowless building that gives no hint of what’s going on inside. Jerusalem bagels (large, sesame-crusted rings unlike the soft NYC style) are the standout and usually sell out before noon. Wild-yeast breads like baguettes, sourdough, challah, and ciabatta are baked fresh daily, and the chocolate challah, when available, is worth moving fast for.
Enriched bread with ribbons of chocolate, a weekend staple
Wild-yeast sourdough baked fresh daily with open crumb and a crackly crust.
Sesame-crusted oblong bread from Israel — chewy, golden, nothing like a NYC bagel.
