A wedge-shaped basement jazz club, fifteen steps below street level, that has held the standard for serious jazz in New York since 1935. The room seats about 125 and the stage sits close enough that nothing gets lost, and Monday nights have belonged to the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra for decades.
