Refrigerated cases run the full length of the counter at this Houston Street appetizing shop, stacked with house-cured Nova lox, multiple preparations of herring, sable, and whitefish salad sold by weight. The hand-sliced Nova on a bagel with scallion cream cheese is the standard order, though the sable (black cod that has been cured and smoked) tends to convert anyone who samples it. Babka and rugelach at the counter are worth the carry.
