Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco · restaurant
Counter stools, vinyl booths, and a short-order kitchen that's been running since before the Haight had its reputation. The chicken fried steak — breaded beef cutlet buried in poultry gravy, two eggs any style, biscuits on the side — is the order that brings the regulars. One of the neighborhood's last proper diners, and very much aware that it doesn't need to be anything else.
