Financial District, San Francisco ยท bar
No clock on the wall, no TV above the bar, and by local account, one U.S. president died in here with company he shouldn't have had. The dark mahogany, ornate chandeliers, and original floor tiles have barely changed, and the bartenders will tell you about the Prohibition-era passageway under New Montgomery Street if you ask. The Yerba Buena Cove (mezcal, chili liqueur, habanero bitters) is the cocktail to order.
Balcones whiskey, Amaro Nonino, apricot. Named for the president who allegedly died here.
Aviation gin, lemongrass, St-Germain. Bright and botanical with a literary nod.
Gin, fresh basil, lime juice, a clean, herb-forward house classic at this century-old SoMa bar
Dickel Rye, Select Aperitivo, sweet vermouth, a rye-forward Manhattan riff from the cocktail menu
Mezcal, chili liqueur, habanero bitters. Smoky and spicy with a slow burn.
