Dog Eared Books marks its 34th birthday on September 23rd with 34% off almost everything in the store. Leftover "Suck It Bezos" stickers from the 30th anniversary are also still around.
The last bookstore standing on what was once Valencia Street's literary mile, Dog Eared has outlasted every one of its former neighbors since opening in 1992. Anarchist zines share shelves with Beat literature, noir paperbacks, Michelle Tea poetry, and Nina Simone CDs in a collection that's delightfully eclectic. The shoebox-sized shop still writes receipts by hand, usually with a shop dog somewhere nearby.
